Next week marks a critical stretch for the Rays. They'll start their final homestand at Steinbrenner Field on Sept. 17. Their playoff chances hang by a thread.
First up: a clash with the AL East front-runners from Toronto. Then comes Boston for three games that could make or break the season. The stadium switch hasn't dampened fan spirits.
This year brought big changes. When storms wrecked The Trop, the team moved to Steinbrenner Field: their first time playing regular games away from their usual dome. The switch shook up both players and fans.
The Red Sox games pack extra excitement. Fans can catch a sky-lit drone display after the Sept. 19 matchup, when players sport City Connect uniforms. The next day brings back Devil Rays memories, while the University of Tampa takes center stage for the finale.
"It has been a truly entertaining experience going to Rays games at Steinbrenner Field. Home games under the sun and stars are a unique experience for those of us exclusively used to games under the dome," wrote Bob Carskadon to That's So Tampa.
The skies look promising. Clear weather and mild temps should hold through all seven games: quite a switch from the usual indoor setting fans know so well.
When 2026 rolls around, the team plans to return to a fixed-up Tropicana Field. That makes these games extra special: they might be the last ones played here, barring a playoff run.
