Volunteers swarmed 33 locations around Tampa Bay, removing massive amounts of debris from local waters during Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful's Spirit Week, ending Sept. 20. From the winding Hillsborough River to coastal edges, teams worked tirelessly to restore the waters.
Kids, adults, and seniors joined forces in this push to protect marine creatures and clean up the bay. Small teams spread out to target the worst-hit spots, where trash had built up over months.
"I've been volunteering since I was 15 years old. I've seen this cleanup grow and change in good ways because the need is there, and we're trying to focus on more high-need areas," said Executive Director Kristina Moreta, according to Fox 13 News.
Spirit Week marks just one part of a bigger mission. The organization runs daily activities, from putting new trees in the ground to teaching kids about nature's importance. Their work never stops.
Local residents can pitch in any time they want. Each day brings fresh chances to make the Bay Area cleaner and healthier for everyone.
