Bern's Steak House made OpenTable's 2025 list of the top 100 dining spots in America. The Tampa eatery is one of three Florida locations to receive this distinction.
OpenTable compiled the list using more than 10 million verified diner reviews. They examined various metrics: diner ratings, advance reservation percentages, five-star reviews, alert settings, and direct searches.
"We are honored to be named one of OpenTable's Top 100 Restaurants. Being the only restaurant in Tampa and one of just three in Florida on this list is truly special," David Laxer, owner of Bern's Steak House, said per TBBW. "OpenTable's recognition comes directly from our diners based on their reviews and demand, which makes this honor even more meaningful."
The Hyde Park restaurant started in 1956. Bern and Gert Laxer bought a small bar on South Howard Avenue that year. They expanded into surrounding storefronts as time passed.
The place houses more than 6,800 wine selections. Over half a million bottles sit in its cellar. It pours more than 150 wines by the glass, including nearly 300 Madeiras, Ports, and Sherries. The Wine Spectator Grand Award has gone to Bern's for many years.
OpenTable pointed to the location's "perfectly aged steaks, one of the largest wine collections in the world, and an internationally famous dessert room." The site also mentioned locally grown vegetables and 20 caviar choices for guests.
"Each visit to Bern's Steak House takes you on a gastronomic adventure that defines Bern's not as a meal but as an experience," the OpenTable website reads.
Buccan in Palm Beach and Norigami in Winter Garden joined the Tampa spot as Florida's three representatives. Over 40 cities across the nation appear on the list.
Chicago claimed the top spot. Sixteen venues from that city made the final ranking. The Laxer family also runs Bern's Fine Wines and Spirits, Haven, and the Epicurean Hotel.
