Ready to get back out there? Tampa is ranked as the third best city for singles in the United States, according to a WalletHub study. It analyzed over 180 U.S. cities, focusing on 35 dating factors, such as the number of singles, online dating options, and related costs.
In the study, Tampa secured the third spot overall, placed 9th for dating opportunities, and ranked 12th for fun and activities. However, it was listed as 115th for economic factors. Atlanta and Las Vegas took the top two spots, with Brownsville, Texas at the bottom.
WalletHub experts highlighted Tampa's diverse attractions and dining options as excellent date venues. The city features many social clubs, shopping areas, and coffee shops, providing a variety of dating experiences, according to the authors.
Tampa's economic aspect is notable as well. It's among the top 65 for median household income, exceeding $73,000 annually when adjusted for living costs. This is linked to its coastal appeal and expanding job market, which attract professionals and boost incomes and dating prospects, say WalletHub researchers.
The city also has favorable demographics for singles, ranking 13th in gender balance for singles. Nearly 60% of Tampa residents are single, a significant figure compared to 47% in Port St. Lucie.
The local dating scene is vibrant with activities like golfing, swimming, and fishing. Sporting events, such as Buccaneers and Rays games, provide more opportunities to meet people. Parks, the zoo, and Busch Gardens are also popular spots.
In the 2024 WalletHub study, Tampa was No. 5 among U.S. metro areas for singles, showing consistent options in dating, entertainment, and cost. Previously, in 2023, Tampa achieved 7th place, standing out in safety and entertainment.
Historically, from 2008 to 2016, the percentage of single males in Tampa decreased from 46% to 38%, positioning the Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater area as the 18th most single metro in the U.S., according to Census data.
Online dating is active in this region, with OKCupid and Match being popular choices. Matchmaker Julie Ferman noted that the stigma around online dating has declined, with more people forming relationships online now.
Social connections are important, too. Prior to 2025, the New Town Connections group, founded by Andrew Machota, had already expanded to 130 young professionals, organizing meetups to foster friendships and romance. Machota said, "It's a social group made to help folks make friends."
In the Tampa Bay area, Pinellas County leads with 55% of residents unmarried and over 20, exceeding the national rate of 49.1%. Hillsborough and Hernando also show high numbers, while Sarasota is the lowest at 43%.
