Want to know the best spots to grab some food after the Gasparilla parade? We're not talking about those street vendors selling hot dogs either (although, when in a pinch, those hot dogs are live savers). Tampa native Kirby Wallace told That's So Tampa the top suggestions for post-celebration snacks.

Gasparilla originated in 1904 as a mock invasion, thanks to the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. This was the brainchild of society editor Louise Francis Dodge and George W. Hardee to honor pirate Jose Gaspar. Initially part of the May Day festival, a small krewe in New Orleans-style costumes on horseback joined, later enjoying a ball at the historic Tampa Bay Hotel.

Keep in mind that thousands flock to Tampa to take part in the Gasparilla madness, and it's likely that no matter which spot you choose, there will likely be a wait to get seated and possibly a cover charge.

Wallace suggests sticking around Bayshore and steering clear of Swann & Howard, which tends to gather large crowds. For food, South Howard Avenue is a lively area with plenty of options. Bella's Italian Café offers comforting pasta dishes, and Sally O'Neal's Pizza Hotline serves up classic pizzas. For something different, Water + Flour features sushi and sourdough pizzas.

If upscale dining is what you're after, Bayshore has Counter Culture for full-service meals. Barcelona Wine Bar provides wine and tapas, and Babushka's brings Eastern European flavors, adding a nice touch to Bayshore’s options.

Hyde Park has top-notch eateries too. Ro boasts a bento box menu, and Meat Market is known for its espresso martinis. Forbici Modern Italian has square pizzas and lasagna for a comforting Italian meal.

Downtown, indulge in seafood at Big Ray's Fish Camp and The Sail Pavilion. Hattricks offers a sports vibe, and Tori Bar has small plates. Jackson's Bistro, Driftlight Steakhouse, and Lona by Chef Richard Sandoval offer a variety of waterfront dining experiences.

Nearby, The Water Street district features The Pearl with Southern cuisine and Yard House with a wide-ranging menu. 3 Corners Pizza is great for a quick slice. For a late-night bite, check out the new Predalina. Boulon Brasserie is a solid choice if you're making reservations. Not to mention plenty of options at Sparkman Wharf.

Gasparilla has grown to include crowning events, new and diverse krewes, parades, cannons, and flotillas. This expansion has shaped Tampa’s pirate-themed image. Getting an Uber post-festival might be challenging, so stick with nearby dining options.

Since 2005, Gasparilla happens annually on the last Saturday of January, drawing visitors from all over. These cozy dining spots are perfect for unwinding after the parade, appreciated for their closeness.
