Dads' Kitchen and Co. has opened at 2105 Central Ave. in the Grand Central District. The restaurant took over where 2D Cafe once stood. Breakfast and lunch are served from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week.
Nick Ellis and Joseph Christianson own the place. Both are fathers raising four children who have intellectual and physical disabilities.
Before St. Pete, Ellis and Christianson ran Roo Roo's Diner in Largo. There they hired adults with disabilities and trained them.
The menu has biscuits topped with corned beef hash gravy or sausage gravy. Pancake tacos get stuffed with eggs and bacon. Chicken and waffles are on the menu too. So are omelets, eggs Benedict options, and a bone-in pork chop served with eggs. All breakfast items stay available all day, according to I Love the Burg.com.
For lunch, the Roo Roo Reuben and Michael's Chicken Tenders appear on the menu — both named after the owners' kids. A patty melt and club sandwich can be ordered as well. The Central Burger comes piled with grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, and cheese.
The space got updated. Indoor and outdoor seating expanded. Some elements from the previous tenant still remain visible.
