Frontrunner Casting is on the lookout for local extras for the movie The Statement, starring Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti, which is set to shoot in St. Petersburg. Directed by Tom McCarthy, the film delves into early climate change discussions in 1980s Florida.
Extras are needed for scenes on April 6, 7, and 8. The historic Don CeSar on St. Pete Beach is expected to be a filming location. Participants will earn $200 for a 12-hour day, plus $50 for a fitting.
McCarthy, known for Spotlight, is working with Thomas Bidegan and Noé Debré on the screenplay. Inspired by Nathaniel Rich’s book Losing Earth, the story unfolds with scientists and policymakers, tasked by Congress, writing a paper on CO2 emissions. John Turturro, Amy Ryan, Evan Peters, Tatiana Maslany, and Jason Clarke join Rudd and Giamatti in this project.
Sony Pictures Classics is managing domestic film distribution, and filming began in early March 2026 in places like New Orleans and Chalmette, Louisiana.
Men who can pull off a period look and are open to cutting their hair to match the era shouldn’t miss this opportunity. Extras should mention if they own period cars from 1965 to 1979, as the production is interested in these for authenticity.
To apply, hopefuls can email thestatement@frcasting.com. Applicants should include their name, age, contact information, recent photos, and clothing sizes. Those with suitable vehicles might get a $150 bonus.
McCarthy's past work includes popular titles like The Station Agent and The Visitor. Executive producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are backing the project and the roles it provides, set in a crucial era for climate conversations. Drawing from historical settings, The Statement mirrors the talks on global environmental concerns from that time.
Filming in the area gives participants the chance to work alongside well-known actors in a distinct Florida location.
