Chef Felicia Lacalle threw open the doors to Quiote Tequilaria on Wednesday at 2109 Bayshore Blvd. She took over the old Ciro's spot. Guests can pick from close to 175 different tequilas and mezcals while sampling upscale Mexican food.
Starters? You'll find scallop aguachile, esquites quiote, and camarones a la parilla. Handheld picks pack in lamb birria, an oyster mushroom quesadilla, and chicharrón de Iberico.
The entrees bring out bigger flavors. Charred quail comes dressed in rose petal sauce. There's a tomahawk steak. Pescado veracruzana rounds out the options. Lacalle posted photos of both the quail and fish on Instagram.
Lacalle made her name with Kuba Cocina, her Cuban restaurant that started life as Hemingway's at Armature Works. Critics loved it before it shut down.
The chef wants diners to "experience the refined artistry of Mexican cuisine paired with exceptional tequila and mezcal in an atmosphere that elevates dining to an art form," according to That's So Tampa.
Quiote Tequilaria stays open Wednesdays through Sundays. Hours run from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m.
